“We should get the laundry,” he said, and I said, “Wait a minute more.” We just sat there in the car, seats back, watching the trees on the edge of the parking lot. “You see how those trees in the background move in the wind?” I pointed, paused. “Wiggle wiggle wiggle…” The leaves flittered and glistened, a green starry sky against the blue, in the eery calm between the thunderstorms. Some minutes passed in a drowsy reverie. Then, I said, “If we were a movie, I’d like this scene.” He turned his face and grinned at me, and I sighed and said, “Okay, we can get the laundry now.”
