Yearning

It was a gnawing desire for deeper connection and the always present urge to put a pen to a sheet of paper and puncture through the shallow layers of bone and flesh, always after something more meaningful, that led me to seek for penpals online. Today, a letter arrived from Germany, in an envelope lined with multi-colored gerbera daisies and matching peach tinted stationary. The ink was blue. The script: small, soft, gentle, friendly, safe. As I pored through the three pages of self expression and stories and earnest questions, I wondered how many people are out there yearning like we are, to find someone who will take the time to hear us, read us, know us, embrace us, and maybe, in time, let us be their keeper, maybe let us know them fully too.
