Strangers In Indianapolis

The girl sleeping in the bunk bed below me and I stayed at the same run down hotel in New Delhi.

She is a Hare Krishna devotee, and stayed where they put up the pilgrims right by the Iskcon Temple. I stayed there too, because the Lotus Temple is a ten minute walk from there, and each morning I rose early, ordered a 5 rupee chai on a street corner, and walked through a little park connecting the two sacred places, full of weeds and stray cows and early misty light, to start my day of service.

There was a glimmer in our eyes, smiling at each other, taken aback by the sudden shared experience between us.
