Passing Showers

There are moments when I miss you so much I start sputtering saline all over my notecards and worksheets and textbooks and keyboard, stumbling over old blogs and letters in delicate envelopes in a sort of blind agony. A few minutes later I am studying diligently and tapping my foot to songs by Of Monsters and Men or Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and it is over, like a passing shower – the sky is back to a bland gray as quickly as it had darkened to soot and dissolved around me, and I hardly know what hit me, or why.
