With John, On A Windy Road In Seelyville

“Look!” I said, and pointed towards a lawn across the street. In the wet grass in the early dawn light, two young deer were playing tag, oblivious to us approaching. We beamed at each other, and observed them bounding about from lawn to lawn, running after each other, tagging each other, taking turns leading the the chase, then dashing across the street and crossing paths with one another several times down the way to the forest edge. We watched them continue their game as they disappeared into the woods, and ran on in silence in the rain and the fog and the cold on the endless winding roads.
