The Places We Cannot Go

MFT: So, another patient died in my WWII support group this week.

PhD: I’m so sorry to hear that.

PhD: How are you feeling?

MFT: Well, It’s the third patient we’ve lost recently. The group is getting small.

LCSW: It’s becoming more of a bereavement group than a trauma group. (Awkward laughter.)

MFT: It’s just… it makes you think about your own mortality, you know?

(Long silence.)

MD: I have another patient to discuss.
